Amit Dutta is a filmmaker and writer. Born in Jammu, he lives and works from the Kangra valley in Himachal Pradesh. He graduated in film direction from the Film & Television Institute of India (FTII) in 2004. He has made over forty films and published six books. His works cover an eclectic range from literary adaptations, fiction, documentation, video-diary and animation, often blurring genres in an attempt to engage directly with the subjects in an alternative way. His works mostly deal with subjects of art history, ethno-anthropology and cultural inheritance through cinema, many times merging research and documentation with an open imagination. His films include Kramasha, The Man’s Woman and Other Stories, Nainsukh, The Seventh Walk, Chitrashala, Gita Govinda, Ramkhind, Finished-Unfinished, and The Unknown Craftsman among others.
